2013. best year ever.

Today is the last day of 2013. Lucy woke up early this morning and as we snuggled in bed, we all decided it was because she wanted to savor the last day of the year she was born. It truly has been the best year ever. Many, many ups and downs landing us on the mountaintop that we are on right now in our cozy home as a family of 3.
Highlights include:

Mexico with the love of my life.
working with these 2 beauties every day
trip to Kentucky to visit this turkey.
 Sten graduates.
door county with kate and peter.
 this amazing deck.
 our babymoon to bay lake
 our little chicky's birth!
 a super successful eye surgery
our first family vacation up north

Goodbye 2013. Cannot wait to see what 2014 will bring.

oh joy.

So not ready to come out of the Christmas time bubble. I had my mistletoe mix playing on repeat this morning while cleaning and putting away all of our million bags from staying at my parents for the last couple days. It was a magical Christmas from beginning to end. Highlights include:

- Waking up Christmas Eve morning with Caleb and Emily, egg bake, PW caramel rolls, Lucy time, and of course a game of cards.

- Christmas Eve services at Cedarbrook.
- Waking up Christmas morning and having a picnic by our fireplace with Lucy before hitting the road to celebrate with my family
- Time around the tree with my family, opening presents, playing with the kids and eating a delicious meal.

- Family Balderdash game with so many laughs.
- Celebrating Sten!! 28!!!

- Lunch with the Anderson's at Hell's Kitchen and meeting little Sommar, such a sweetie.

 - Getting an EXCELLENT report at the eye clinic yesterday. The doctor said "I could not be happier with her progress, you guys are…

3 months. + december happenings.

wow. can't believe my little chicky is 3 months old. Time seems to be going by at warp-speed.
Here's a Lucy update:
- she makes getting up in the morning SO exciting. mornings are her best times.
- after learning she has a dairy allergy she has been a new baby. no more squats for 12 hours a day. she's a happy little camper.
- watching Sten make her smile is my favorite thing in the world.
- shes been sleeping from about 7p- 6a.
- she absolutely HATES her patch :( those 3 hours are the worst of the day.
- still LOVES the bath. she just lights up as soon as those little toes hit the water.
- she kicks and kicks all the time, sometimes I think she is going to kick herself over to her tummy.
- shes makes us the happiest and we could not love her more.
Below is her 3 month pictures, plus a couple other over the last few weeks.

We had a great weekend. On Friday Sten and I continued the Carlson Family tradition of watching White Christmas and eating Swedish Pancakes. It's on…

God Jul and Swedish Meatballs.

I'm so excited to be a guest blogger for Scandinavian Christmas 2013! I couldn't decide what to share this year, until I took a look at my Advent Calendar and today was: Make a Swedish Meatball Dinner. Perfect. Swedish Meatballs can be enjoyed at anytime of the year, however, on this cold snowy day in Wisconsin with the Christmas lights lit, I feel it screams Christmas!

I have a 3 month old (Lucy), so I needed a recipe I could prep while she was napping and this is a perfect "make ahead" meal. I adapted a few different recipes to make my own based on what I had on hand.
Sten and I enjoyed this after Lucy went to sleep. I hope you'll enjoy this meal as well!

For the meatballs:
1.25 lbs Ground Turkey
1/2 onion, chopped (I used red)
 2 tsp. dried parsley
1 egg beaten
1/4 cup bread crumbs
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp cloves

Combine all meatball ingredients together in a bowl, mix thoroughly by hand being careful not to over-mix. Using a Tab…
