December days

I can't believe NEXT week is Christmas! I am so excited and have been jamming my days full of Christmas treats and my favorite people.
This week has been especially full. On Monday we took Lucy in for a sedated eye exam. She went under so the Dr. could get a good look at how her eye is doing 1-year post surgery. He checked her pressures and her contact fit and we got an EXCELLENT report. I am always so encouraged when we go for Lucy's appointments. It makes me feel like all the hard work is totally worth it. After Lucy's appointment we stopped in for coffee and donuts at my sis's in St. Paul, where I was able to see her new home all decorated for Christmas <3. That night I went to Ashley's concert at school! This girl is amazing! I am so impressed by all her talents.
On Tuesday, my mom, sister and I + 3 kids, went to my Grandma's and made Christmas cookies. We had SO much fun mixing and baking and sprinkling.
Today we had some guests over, met Sten for lunc…

SIX

We celebrated 6 years with dinner and a movie the day after Thanksgiving. That's so us. Low key. We like being together and we are savers, so the thought of spending money to stay downtown when we could stay for free at my mom and dad's didn't make a whole lot of sense to us. Of course we came to that decision after lots of back and forth- one thing in our marriage that has never changed. We. Are. The. Worst. Decision. Makers. Ever. It came out in our pre-marriage counseling and now we mostly just joke about it. Something that makes us, us. We've had one of our best years yet. Getting to spend a whole year doing "firsts" with our girl Lucy. When it's just the 2 of you, there is no way to know how much more your heart can expand until it doubles in size with the addition of a baby. There are significantly less "us-ies" this year, but the times that we have been, just the 2 of us, have been some of the most special memories yet. We are so grateful…

gingerbread love.

So excited to be back for another year of Scandinavian Christmas! As my little one grows I think about traditions often. One of my favorite Christmas traditions was decorating our house while listening to the Amy Grant Christmas RECORD. I still have visions of my sister and I dancing around the house while singing: "Wonderful, Counselor! Lord of Life, Lord of ALLLLLLLL, He is the Prince of Peace, Mighty God, Holy One, Eeee-maaaaaa-nuel, Emanuel!" I think secretly our parents hoped that record would get scratched....
Last year for Christmas I got a 'Swedish Gingerbread House Cookie Cutter' from my mother-in-law and thought making gingerbread houses will be a tradition I start! Lucy is a little young yet, and was really more just in the way, but it's the thought that counts, right?! So- here we are, year 1!
This gingerbread recipe was delicious, I made little gingerbread men and gave them to a new family at our church and she asked for the recipe. Sten loved it too…

14 month update

I'm so behind on my blogging! AH! I completely missed month 13. oh well! We've got 3 walkers in the house these days, although little Lucy girl still prefers to crawl if its across the room or she's really excited about getting somewhere quickly. She has been especially fun the last month and her personality is developing at full-force.
remember how she is 10? ready for school!  She loves visitors, especially kids. She gets so giddy and excited. We had such a fun time with Madelyn. We made princess crowns out of construction paper, played lots of kitchen and showed Lucy how to correctly wear jewelry.  Lucy and her $10 garage sale kitchen. This is the best thing I have ever purchased. She spends so much time putting things in the microwave, and then taking them out and pushing the buttons, it is so fun to watch her.  Visiting Great Grandma. She loves sitting on her lap and playing with all of the random toys Grandma has kept over the years! This girl and that baby. This wa…

Happy Monday!

We had a jammed packed weekend full of Grandma, cousins and J time. A couple highlights include:
- A family lunch at Tahn Truc in Woodbury for some seriously delicious Vietnamese food before the guys left to speak at "Man Camp" up at CPBC
- An afternoon of playing with cars/trucks/blocks, before putting the kids to bed and playing multiple rounds of Rummy 500 while sipping wine.
- Saturday morning bright and early trip to the MOA! We strolled until about 11a when the crowds were overtaking us...
- We then drove to Woodbury for the grand opening of Patina and re-fueled at Brueggers Bagels
- More playing after naps: I heard the phrase "Caca play?" "Oh Caca, where are you?" and "Caca play yet?" a million times and it warmed my heart each and every time.
- Went to church at Crossroads on Sunday and waited for the guys to get home to watch the Vikings game! Lucy was excited to see Sten and Grandpa.

It was just a fantastic weekend all together. One I …

Fall Happenings

In the past, Fall has always been a favorite season of mine.... I love getting my winter bin of clothes from the basement and baking pumpkin everything. I was slow to get into the spirit this year because last winter was brutal, and this summer seemed to fly by, but slowly over the last week or so, I've embraced the changing season; the beauty it brings, the dark nights, and the slower pace. I've been drinking a lot of tea and snuggling with Lucy under blankets while reading books.
The other day I made these pumpkin muffins, that were to die for. I added a struessel topping and thought the presentation was perfect. Lucy loved them too.

November is especially dear to me as it includes:
- Thanksgiving
- Our 6th Anniversary
So bring on the turkey and stovetop stuffing, we are ready to celebrate!!

We've had a fantastic October full of family and lots of festive fall events. Some highlights include:

My mom came out to visit a couple weeks ago and we hiked Hoffman Hills. The we…

just because its wednesday

over the last few weeks sten and i have carved out time to have lunch together on wednesdays. its easily become a highlight of my week. because we are two of the most indecisive people you will ever meet, we take turns picking the spot and there is much anticipation on wednesday morning as the 'picker' reveals their pick. it was my pick today and we went to legacy. we've had some good memories in that little coffee shop since living in menomonie. i find it cozy and inviting and everything there is delicious.
a couple weeks ago lucy had a double ear infection, and then woke up sunday with a bad reaction to the amoxicillin. i took her to urgent care sunday morning, and then the rash kept getting worse and worse, we went back to the dr on monday, and then last night went BACK to urgent care after her legs swelled up, her feet were turning blue, and she was not herself. at urgent care she had blood drawn. all her tests came back ok, it was just a severe allergic reaction to t…
