Merry Christmas 2024

 

Merry Christmas! I have started this post a few different times. How do I sum up a year that has been so full? and has also gone so fast that I actually can't believe it's over?! 
We started the year in Michigan, spent a snow-less winter in Hudson, did all of our favorite things over the summer, 4/5 of us started school in the fall and now we end 2024 staying warm and cozy in our Christmas-decorated home trying to slow down time.
Lucy age 11 is almost as tall as me. she is the kindest human you will ever meet. She loves everything. She especially loves reading, playing, making up plays and girl dates with mom. I love spending time with this gift of a child. She makes my world a better place and I can't believe she's mine.
Olle age 9 is all sports all the time. You will rarely see him without a football, wearing something pertaining to football, talking about football or asking to have a friend over to play football. He loves our family so much. He loves traditions and all things nostalgia. I love spending time with Olle one on one because he makes you feel so special. He is an amazing guy and i can't wait to continue to watch him grow up.
Sigge is 5 and started kindergarten this year. He is rocking it. He has great friends, a great attitude and loves learning. Watching him walk through the door with his back pack on each afternoon makes me feel like-- when did my baby grow up? This child oozes joy. He's an amazing artist and has started doing tutorials for Sten and I- teaching us how to draw certain characters and it is extremely impressive his level of detail and precision. My world would not be as fun without Sigge in it, he makes everyday more joyful.
Sten is amazing. He is the rock that we all lean on and the starter of fun. He continued to sing and play guitar around town this year. Midcurrent has grown too. we added a full time worship leader and a part time admin-- the tiny staff of me and him and a church of 40 has grown! Sten and I celebrated 16 years this November and I love him so much. 

Me! It is my blog so I get to brag about myself :) I started WORKING! Everyday. Teaching 3 and 4 year olds. After 11 years of stay at home mom-ing, it has been an adjustment, but also just so good for me. I love getting hugs and smiles and playing play-doh and telling them about how much Jesus loves them. 
I also ran 2 marathons and completed a half Ironman-- feeling grateful I have legs that can run, bike and swim. I set out this year to: "be where my feet are" to enjoy the moment I am in, and I can honestly say I did that. I found joy in my home, while driving to activities, while cooking and cleaning and I feel so thankful for this life of mine. 

2025 will be full of trying my hardest to slow down time while watching my kids grow. Chasing PRs in running, and a lot of filling my home with people I love.

    Erica - It is so good to see your fam all grown up! Lucy almost as tall as you? Crazy. So happy for you all. How lucky we were to have Cedarbrook be your launching pad!

Dan and Pam +

 One of our favorite weeks of summer came and went: When Dan and Pam visit. This means lots of family time at Big C. Everything is a game and there are lots of laughs-- never ending fun. It always goes by so fast and it’s sad to see them go.  This year we did something super different and took a 24 hour trip to show off Duluth to Pam. J is the best trip planner and when she sent me the itinerary I knew it was going to be a good time.  Here we are in our little hostel room. I slept like a rock thanks to half a sleeping pill. Seriously. I slept over 9 hours and didn’t even wake up to go to the bathroom!  Found just a couple rocks to skip 😂  Here we are at split rock lighthouse. We were too cheap to go into the actual park and get the tour so we listened to a podcast on the way home instead haha  The fog hadn't burned off yet and it made for the most beautiful backdrop.  Perhaps the highlight for me: burrata and wine on the rocks of gooseberry falls. Wolfpack.

We had a good day with these lifetime friends of mine. PHS class of ‘04.  Linds is so good at getting everyone together. She planned this whole day and then everyone took the day off work/ got kids out of activities and sports and made the effort to see one another.  Friendship of 35 years is a true gift. I feel like these girls watched me grow up. From playing boxcar children in the basement to jr high shenanigans/ all the trips to Treasure Island to studying abroad together in Italy to visiting each others first homes/ attending weddings /welcoming in motherhood and most recently keeping up on Marco Polo I am thankful for these gals.     Recreating a picture from 7 yrs ago 😂  As we were saying our goodbyes we looked down and BURST into laughter. Must be a 40 yr old thing.  Memories upon memories with this crew.  xo. edc.

goodbye summer 2026

I headed back to BHP today after what may have been the best summer ever. If you would have asked me a week ago if I was ready to go back I would have said no, but I think God does a good job of preparing our hearts for big changes if we allow him to, and I truly felt prepared walking into school today.  My classroom has a ways to go to be ready to welcome in students to meet the teacher night on Wednesday-- but I know I'll get there.  Routine is good, and I packed my lunch last night, laid out my clothes and after work today headed to the grocery before grilling up some chicken for dinner. I needed something to remind me that I love feeding my family well, being somewhat organized and nights at home after a day away. Here are some summer lasts: Mornings on the front porch with coffee + 1 kid + a game?!?!?
