2021 Favorites.

Here are a few of my favorite moments of 2021.

#1. This weekend at the lake was maybe my biggest highlight of our year. We decided on a total whim to head up after the cabin was already closed... no running water and cool temps. It checked all the boxes for me. Total adventure, spur of the moment, super low key, beautiful, unexpected perfect weather and my favorite people in the world. 
It's hard not to feel like we are our best versions of ourselves when we are at the lake. We are all a little kinder, a little more relaxed, and always adventure-ready. I hope the kids feel it too. It's special.


#2. Fishing. Felt like this was the year that everyone was REALLY into it. And fishing means you're at the lake, so it's always a good thing. Big C holds a million memories for me already, and I feel like it is my second home in the summer. I love that the kids just get to roam free and be super independent and enjoy nature. I've realized this year that I need more nature more and less inside. I crave the outdoors. I think that is why summer holds a place in my heart that can't be explained. It's almost like my entire body gets charged up from the outdoors-ness summer offers. 



#3. Portage Lake Bible Camp. Spending 2 weeks in Michigan was good for the soul. In a short amount of time this place has become magical to our children, and I am not surprised. They are known, they are loved, and they are free! I love the amount of time I get to spend with them, I love the amount of time I get to spend by myself, I love the amount of time I get to spend with Sten and I love the amount of time I get to catch up with extended family. It feels like a solid place to rejuvenate! 

The day this picture was taken felt extra special because it was just the 5 of us in between the 2 camps and we spent the day swimming in the cold "Big Lake", eating pringles and playing in the sand.


#4. Realizing that sometimes you just have to go out and spend some money as a family.... this has been new for us in 2021. We are solid "eat at home" people, but Sten and I both realized this year that we need more "eat out" days in our lives. It breaks up the routine juuuuuuust enough to remember that we DO love spending time with our kids and they are fun and growing up really fast. It forces longer conversation and funny moments and no dishes or things that distract us when we're at home.
Hoping for more "eat out" days in 2022.
#5. Maybe it's just because its December now, but this season with the kids is my favorite. Decorating was fun this year, every morning in December is exciting, and I just feel like the ages RIGHT now of the kids is the best. Lucy: constantly reading, wanting to play games, still into make believe, being the absolute best big sister. Olle: sporty as ever and so thoughtful, sweet and cuddly, he makes you feel like a million bucks just with one little hug. Sigge: the funniest kid on the planet, who is convinced he's 9 and says the best things and makes our life wayyyyyy better. Love these 3 so much.
#6. Year 13 was so good to us. I can't even stand how much I love Sten. I was trying to comprehend it while running the other day and all I could think of was that this year has been a year of risk-taking, and I think it has made our relationship richer, deeper, and more solid. I think we work well when we are biting off a little more than we actually should have. Midcurrent Building Campaign/ new building feels BEYOND scary to me. I feel like because we are teetering on the edge of adventure and risk, we are rocking on the loving each other well- front. 
Our anniversary getaway was the best! 
#7. SCHOOL! For 2/3! It feels so good to send 2 kids on the bus each day and spend the day with little Sigge-boy. I'm thankful the kids love school because I love that they go to school and we all get a break from each other and are excited to see one another again at 4:25pm!
#8. Marathon weekend in Bismarck is impossible to describe. I felt so loved, so cheered for, so supported, and so 100% me. It was THE BEST part of 2021.

We eeeked out every last drop until it was time to head back to school on Wednesday. Annual tradition trip to Lucette after Meet the Teacher is the photo above. Happy to report that everyone did great the first 3 days of school- although I don't know if we're quite ready for a full 5 day week starting tomorrow :) Sten took the boys to Michigan to go to his cousins daughters wedding and they did something that Sten introduced me to when we were dating and on staff together at PLCBC- diving for golf balls! The boys thought it was a blast and I love that they got a bright blue -sunny -skies day to make the water look turquoise and the ball finding easy. While the boys were gone Lucy and I whooped it up! We went to the first Hudson football game... Went to the Glenwood City Rodeo.... AND drove to Iowa to see Josiah Queen at the Iowa State Fair!  Fun is an understatement to describe this little getaway and I feel so lucky we got to do this together. Then it was BACK TO REALITY! holy...

bookends/ teacher things/fall poem

The bookends of my day yesterday was God's way of showing me that I am going to be ok. This picture from my solo run in the morning was absolutely perfect. Cold hands, fast road miles, worship music and a text from a friend right in the middle of it saying that I was top of her prayer list that morning. Then in the evening the boys were outside playing waffle ball and Lucy was walking around the neighborhood with friends and I cranked up my music and cleaned the entire middle/lower level. I stopped at one point and thought-- this is the biggest gift right now.  Other things: I love pens. and there is something so satisfying about having every single color of felt tip/ gel tip at your disposal. lol. Life touch teacher photos--why is my ear showing so much? Is this what I always look like? Haley hosted the Badland Babes for some brunch after our Willow run on Saturday and she made THE most delicious food, didn't know I needed a bonfire until I was sitting in this chair eating thi...

Merry Christmas 2022

I am in complete denial that an entire year has passed! Where did 2022 go?! We celebrated some big milestones, had a lot of fun, and enjoyed our family most. Here are some highlights and lessons learned from 2022.  So. Much. Swimming! Lesson learned: ALWAYS get in the water. You’ll never regret it. Your kids will love you for it and you’ll make way more memories from inside the water than up on the boat. This day was particularly special as we were all together with Uncle Dan and Aunt Pam. We swam, we ate, we boated and we didn’t want the day to end. Having mom and dad move permanently to the Lake has been the BEST.  Midcurrent MOVED! We raised the money, hired the people, decorated and paved the way for more people to get to know Jesus. Before the carpet was laid we wrote prayers on the floor and I am so excited to see what 2023 will bring for Midcurrent. Lesson learned: do the big thing! Give people a chance to show up and see what God can do! Family camp is ALWAYS a highlig...
