Grit + Proud + Lots o Love.

On the rainiest wettest day this week Kim and I had a 3 hr bike planned during preschool. It was raining, extremely windy and cold but we decided it would be a good training ride in case race day was less than ideal, so we went anyway. Within the first 2 mins we were completely soaked. It was such an experience. And I decided that if I can do that, I can handle pretty much anything that happens on race day.
We only made it 25 miles because our hands were frozen and we were having trouble switching gears and braking. We talked about getting out of our comfort zones and I think that may have been one of my more uncomfortable moments in life. It also made me think about what else I can do to put myself in those type of situations so that I don’t get stuck in this “comfort crisis” most of America is facing right now. I never want to lose the ability to have grit/determination to get through something.
It took me a long time to warm up. Every single thing on my body hurt the next day because of how tense I was riding for 1.5 hours, but it was worth it! And it was fun to ride and learn from Kim!

Thursday night was Lucy’s school concert and it was just amazing. Did I cry multiple times? Yes. Lucy just lights up through music. Her school experienced something so sad this week, and I think the concert really was a moment that brought everyone together. I hope she keeps singing. I can tell it brings her so much joy and that makes me so happy.
The sun popped out on Wednesday and Sigge and I called grandma and met her at Teddy Bear Park. I’m soaking up all the springtime park hangs I can.

On Friday after preschool we went to Big C to put the dock in. And then we sat outside at River Siren while Sigge showed off his amazing art skills.

A sunny day, hanging out was good for the soul.
Saturday was *shocking* raining! and Olle’s football got cancelled. We decided to head to Skyzone and then Lucy and I tackled her room and cleaned out everything!
The sky’s cleared up in the evening and Lucy and I went for a bike ride then decided to fill “a whole square” with chalk. It’s weird, but it’s exactly what I needed. I needed a family win day and that exactly what Saturday was.

Sunday morning I got out early for a 25 mile bike and a quick brick run after and the sun and limited wind made me feel alive. 🥰

Then I got to hang out with some bucket filler friends. Celebrating Andrea’s mom’s life with pull tabs and margaritas ♥️

Today Lucy had an eye appointment in Mayo and GF is ready for a lens implant! That would mean no more contact! Also means surgery which makes her a little nervous. So more to come on that. We spent the whole day together and she makes me happy. This tween-y age is special.

Stopped for a picnic lunch in Cannon Falls and we both decided this would be a great family spot to come back to a bike!

Went straight from Rochester to Preschool graduation for the Sigge-Man! What a cutie he is 🥰

Heading into a new week with a lot of love in my heart. xo. edc.

Dan and Pam +

One of our favorite weeks of summer came and went: When Dan and Pam visit. This means lots of family time at Big C. Everything is a game and there are lots of laughs-- never ending fun. It always goes by so fast and it’s sad to see them go.  This year we did something super different and took a 24 hour trip to show off Duluth to Pam. J is the best trip planner and when she sent me the itinerary I knew it was going to be a good time.  Here we are in our little hostel room. I slept like a rock thanks to half a sleeping pill. Seriously. I slept over 9 hours and didn’t even wake up to go to the bathroom!  Found just a couple rocks to skip 😂  Here we are at split rock lighthouse. We were too cheap to go into the actual park and get the tour so we listened to a podcast on the way home instead haha  The fog hadn't burned off yet and it made for the most beautiful backdrop.  Perhaps the highlight for me: burrata and wine on the rocks of gooseberry falls. Wolfpack.

We had a good day with these lifetime friends of mine. PHS class of ‘04.  Linds is so good at getting everyone together. She planned this whole day and then everyone took the day off work/ got kids out of activities and sports and made the effort to see one another.  Friendship of 35 years is a true gift. I feel like these girls watched me grow up. From playing boxcar children in the basement to jr high shenanigans/ all the trips to Treasure Island to studying abroad together in Italy to visiting each others first homes/ attending weddings /welcoming in motherhood and most recently keeping up on Marco Polo I am thankful for these gals.     Recreating a picture from 7 yrs ago 😂  As we were saying our goodbyes we looked down and BURST into laughter. Must be a 40 yr old thing.  Memories upon memories with this crew.  xo. edc.

goodbye summer 2026

I headed back to BHP today after what may have been the best summer ever. If you would have asked me a week ago if I was ready to go back I would have said no, but I think God does a good job of preparing our hearts for big changes if we allow him to, and I truly felt prepared walking into school today.  My classroom has a ways to go to be ready to welcome in students to meet the teacher night on Wednesday-- but I know I'll get there.  Routine is good, and I packed my lunch last night, laid out my clothes and after work today headed to the grocery before grilling up some chicken for dinner. I needed something to remind me that I love feeding my family well, being somewhat organized and nights at home after a day away. Here are some summer lasts: Mornings on the front porch with coffee + 1 kid + a game?!?!? THE BEST Also a LOT of Rummikub lately a Friday morning of cinnamon chip scones might be the best way to start the day family bike ride on the Brown's Creek Trail 12 miles w...
