The Phil and Laurel come for a visit...

What?! It's July? I can't believe it. That means summers almost over and I haven't documented a THING! June was a busy month. We were house sitting in Evanston, staying cool as best we could, I was able to go home to MN for a beautiful wedding, and to top it off, my parents came for a visit...
A Trip to Chicago is never complete without a visit to Tre Kronor for breakfast.
We had such a fun time and really packed a lot into a short weekend. My parents are supportive, loving, caring, carefree, risk-takers, young at heart and beautiful inside and out. We love spending time with them, and this trip was especially fun, bc it was on our turf :) On Saturday we biked downtown, stopped in the square for gelato and made grilled fajitas for dinner, on Sunday we were supposed to go on a Kayaking Architecture Tour- but a big storm came and luckily we cancelled in time! I found out this happened to the other kayakers that day:

The It was sad to say goodbye! I hate living far away, but it just makes time together that much sweeter. and the fact that I got to end their trip with a visit to Tre K and some of this amazing coffee was totally worth it.

July is here and tomorrow is the 4th! Sten and I have NO plans! hopefully we'll see some fireworks and eat something grilled... those are 2 'musts' on my 4th of July checklist.

the last drops of summer

Heading back to school today as Sten goes back to church as well. The last few weeks flew as fast as the first part of summer and I am in total denial that this is all over. We had the best summer and I wish we could do it all again.  Lots of sleepy children these last couple weeks. Late night and days FULL. We feel so lucky that we got to pack so much in.  Here's a recap of the last drops of summer. Jessica and I took the girls camping. We had the greatest time hiking hanging by the campfire, finding coffee in marine on the St. Croix and sleeping in the camper. These 2 found matching lounge shorts which were a COMPLETE necessity.  Mom and dad came out for dinner one night, which was a real treat It still feels like a dream that my sister and I both have 11 year-old girls. How lucky could I be??? I’m a full on sourdough fanatic again. Get ready for lots of sourdough bread pictures While Sten was out fishing with his brother and friends. I hosted lots of friends! On...

Sliders

Remember when I used to be a food blogger?? I don’t have time for that anymore, but I’m so glad that some people do. This recipe in particular is such a crowd pleaser it needs a permanent spot on my blog. And if you make it. Let me know.  It takes less than 20 mins from start to finish and my kids all ate it. No complaints.   Sliders: 1 lb ground chicken 1/2 cup panko bread crumbs 1 tsp each:garlic powder/ onion powder/ chili powder 2 tsp paprika  1/2 tsp salt Mix.  Make into 8 patties Bake on parchment paper at 425 for 15 minutes.  DONE!  I also understand why I never took off as a food blogger. My pictures are terrible and so un-appetizing. But I truly thought I would make it big.  I’m fairly certain I couldn’t have fit more in this weekend if I tried. But it was a great one full of lots of good things. as we start our first full week of school my prayer is that I can let the little things slide and make some memories with my family. Got in 10 m...

Other things.

In other news: I’m labeling this blogpost “other things” bc there’s a lot that doesn’t fit together and since this is the only way I can remember my life, I must document things.  First: Andrea gave me her race bib for the TC 10 mile. I feel so excited about this. I didn’t know how sad I was not to participate this year until she asked if I wanted her spot and my heart took a ginormous leap! Today I did 4x800’s and it felt SO good.  This loon was fun to watch the other day. I am completely obsessed with loons.  This was: 🥹 but also, I sing a lot at preschool. So I feel like it kind hit, and kinda didn’t.  Badland babes starry morning run. Always a highlight of my week.  Did I already mention that we got to see Great Grandma Kay the other day? If so, well, she gets a double spot on the blog bc she is so sharp and she still pulls sig up on her lap even at 100 yrs old.  Sorry for the sideways. But this was a very good read. It followed 4 people from various b...
